Makaton meetup a massive success

On a cold Monday evening, over thirty people came together in the village of Castleton to sing and sign. The event, organised by the Botton Village Makaton group was an opportunity to spend a social evening away from the village getting to know friends old and new, whilst developing Makaton signing skills.

Makaton is designed to support spoken language – signs are used with speech, in spoken word order to help children and adults to communicate. Using signs can help those who have no speech either because they have communication difficulties or whose speech is unclear.

Community members from Botton Village, staff and friends from the local community joined together to sing and sign along to ‘Botton Village Had a Farm’ to the tune of Old MacDonald.  The group also picked up many new signs for family members, hobbies, our names, animals and colours.

A fantastic evening was had by all. Enjoy this short video of the evening.
